Stadium switch for 2025/26 season
West Bromwich Albion Women will play their home games at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium from the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
The club has agreed a deal to stage league fixtures at the 17,500-capacity venue, which famously hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games and sits just four miles from The Hawthorns. The first match will be against Stoke City in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division on Sunday 14 September.
Step forward for women’s football
Sporting Director Andrew Nestor hailed the move as a “significant step forward” for Albion Women, stressing the importance of providing players and fans with top-level facilities.
“This venue move will ensure our players and coaches are working in top-class facilities at home fixtures, and that our supporters enjoy a vibrant and welcoming match day experience,” he said. “We look forward to welcoming our fans to the Alexander Stadium.”
Head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still said the relocation reflected the club’s ambition. “It’s a really great venue to be playing our games at this season,” she said. “It brings us much closer to our area, which will hopefully continue to grow our fanbase.”
Civic support
Birmingham councillor Mariam Khan, cabinet member for health and social care, welcomed the agreement, saying it underlined the stadium’s transformation into a multi-sport hub. “Their presence here highlights the redevelopment into a world-class venue with outstanding facilities,” she said. “I wish the team a successful season and look forward to seeing their fans in the stands.”
Building momentum
Albion Women have been steadily raising their profile, with the new stadium deal seen as a marker of the club’s long-term investment in the women’s game. The move provides a high-profile platform for the side and brings them closer to the community they represent.
With fixtures now confirmed and a new home secured, attention turns to September’s curtain-raiser, when Stoke City will provide the first test in front of Albion Women’s supporters at their new base.
