More than half of adults would choose to do an apprenticeship if they were to restart their career, according to a study.
The research, conducted by Network Rail to mark National Apprenticeship Week, highlights the increasing appeal of apprenticeships as a pathway to a career.
According to the OnePoll survey of 2,000 people across Britain, 86% of all adults believe that apprenticeships are a great way to kick-start a career and 51% said they wish they could go back in time and have the option of doing one themselves.
One participant of the study, 23 year old Jordanna Mills, from Ashford in Kent, began her career via an apprenticeship back in 2019 and ended up securing a full-time permanent role within Network Rail as a principal technician officer.
Jordanna said: “I wasn’t sure whether university and classroom based learning suited my desire for practical and real world experience. After researching several different paths, I discovered the Level 3 apprenticeship scheme, and haven’t looked back since.”
Network Rail has recruited 1,435 apprentices over the last five years and is recognised as one of the top 100 apprenticeship employers in the UK. The organisation urges more people to take the step towards a rail career – especially those seeking an apprenticeship.
