Vice-chancellor and chief executive of Aston University, Professor Aleks Subic, is leaving the role in April 2026 to become vice-chancellor and president of Torrens University in Australia.

“Since joining Aston in 2022, Professor Subic has led the university through a period of remarkable transformation and growth,” said a varsity spokesperson.

“Under his leadership, Aston has strengthened its position as a modern, agile and globally respected institution and has achieved significant progress across multiple dimensions.”

Professor Subic said: “I am immensely proud of the transformation, growth and success we have achieved at Aston over the past four years.

“I am particularly grateful to the dedicated and talented Aston people whose commitment to our students, research, and partners has been exceptional. The trust and support of our wider community and global network means so much to me. Over the coming months, I will remain focused on delivering our 2030 Strategy so that Aston’s momentum continues.”

Dr Matthew Crummack pro-chancellor and chair of the council at Aston University, said: “I want to express our deepest gratitude to Aleks for his unwavering commitment and visionary leadership.”

The university council will shortly commence an extensive national and international search for its next vice-chancellor and chief executive.

Interims in these roles will be appointed in early 2026 to ensure a smooth and orderly transition following Professor Subic’s departure.
