BCFC Foundation charity recognised for its life-changing work
The Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC) Foundation charity saw off fierce competition to land the prestigious title of “Sporting Initiative of the Year” at the 2025 Birmingham Awards last night.
The foundation helped more than 34,000 people over the 2023/24 season – including primary school children and budding young players from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, as well as adults needing friendship and help getting back into work.

Led by CEO Antony Isherwood, the Birmingham City FC Foundation was up against competition, including Aston Villa FC Foundation, City of Birmingham Rockets, City of Birmingham Special Olympics and Global Kidney Foundation in the sporting initiative category.
The Blues’ official charity, the BCFC Foundation focuses on the four key pillars of “football for all,” “healthy living,” “skills and education” and “stronger communities” – values shared by Knighthead Capital, whose “more than football” focus has been consistent since they acquired BCFC.
Steven Reed, chair of the BCFC Foundation, said: “It’s an honour even to be listed among those other superb organisations and so to win is truly wonderful. I would like to pay tribute to Antony Isherwood, the Foundation Director, and the hardworking and kindhearted staff and volunteers, who are literally changing people’s lives on a daily basis. This award is down to them”.
“Force for good in our communities” – Blues CEO
Jeremy Dale, CEO at Birmingham City Football Club, added: “The Blues is so much more than a football club – and this award for our Foundation demonstrates that. Ever since Knighthead Capital Management took stewardship of the Club, our strategic focus has been transforming this football club on the pitch, off the pitch, and just as importantly, ensuring we are a positive force for good in our communities.”
He added: “I want to say a heartfelt well done to Antony and the entire Foundation team. For them, this is just the start. We know the work that is needed across this city, and our aim is to reach even more people every season.”
