Blues fans tidy up

More than 150 Blues fans spent two hours litter-picking around St Andrew’s @ Knighthead ahead of their Championship season opener against Ipswich this Friday.

The fans – all from Birmingham City FC official supporters’ clubs (OSCs) across the Midlands – roamed the streets last night near the ground, filling bin bags and tidying the area.

Sukh Singh, chairman of the OSC, said: “We held our first litter-pick last year and it was a great way to start our new season, so we decided to run it again and I was thrilled to see even more people turn up.

“St Andrew’s is our home, so it’s right we help our neighbours and help the communities by having this tidy-up.”

The litter-pickers filled two skips with bags and headed back to the ground for a deserved pie and a brew.

Since the OSC was set up 18 months ago, the various supporters’ clubs that have since spring up have raised more than £70,000 for Blues Foundation, which supports high-quality sporting activities, programmes and projects in the city.

“Our own events, like the litter pick  and the sleep out at Christmas when we raise funds for the city’s homeless, show what a great family we are building through the OSCs,” added Sukh.
