Frankfurt market returns to city centre on Nov 1

Birmingham’s world-famous Frankfurt Christmas Market will return to the city centre next month, running from November 1 to December 24, Birmingham City Council has confirmed.

Seven weeks of festive cheer

Billed as the largest authentic German Christmas market outside Germany and Austria, the event will once again line New Street and Victoria Square with dozens of traditional wooden stalls offering festive food, drink, and gifts.

The market, which has been a fixture of Birmingham’s festive calendar since 1997, attracts millions of visitors each year and is widely regarded as one of the city’s biggest tourism draws.

A council spokesperson said the market remains “the highlight of Birmingham’s festive season” and an important boost for local businesses and hospitality.

Opening times announced

The market will open daily for the full seven-week run.

  • Monday to Thursday: 11:00–21:00
  • Friday: 11:00–21:30
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00–21:30

On Remembrance Sunday (November 10), the market will open later, at 13:00, out of respect for commemorations.

Bratwurst, beer and live music

Visitors can expect a mix of German delicacies such as bratwurst, pretzels, schnitzel and strudel, alongside gifts, ornaments, and handmade crafts. Traditional glühwein, beer and hot chocolate will also feature heavily.

Live music will add to the festive atmosphere, with German and Birmingham-based performers taking to the stage during lunchtimes and evenings. At weekends, choirs from local schools and community groups will perform in the mornings, while a new “talent showcase” will run on Monday evenings.

Full details of the stage programme will be published closer to the opening date.

Getting there

Organisers said there will be ample parking in nearby city centre car parks, while Birmingham’s three main train stations – New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill – are all within easy walking distance. Visitors can also reach the market via local bus and tram routes.

As the city prepares for the lights to switch on, the return of the Frankfurt Market promises to once again fill Birmingham’s streets with the sights, sounds, and scents of Christmas – from sizzling sausages and roasted nuts to festive music echoing through Victoria Square.
