The profound power of unity was loud and clear at the annual Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan procession yesterday in Birmingham.
A vibrant sea of people, primarily those from the Sikh community, had gathered to celebrate faith, culture, and togetherness.
From scattering flower petals along the route to capturing moments on mobile phones and singing devotional hymns, the spirit of collective celebration was undeniable.

Aim: peace, interfaith dialogue and reducing division
Nagar Kirtan is more than just a procession. It embodies the Sikh tradition of taking spiritual teachings into the wider world. It represents a commitment to peace, interfaith dialogue, and reducing fear and division.
The route began at Gurdwara Baba Ke in Handsworth and made its way through to Smethwick, with stops at landmarks along the way.
The event also marked the exciting launch of the Faith Alliance Roadshow, a new initiative aimed at reducing youth violence.
This project will provide leadership training for young people within places of worship, empowering them to lead positive change in their communities.
Unity, kindness and community

The project is championed by West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner Simon Foster.
“We have not done something big in the faith space before and I am confident the efforts of everyone involved will result in our young people feeling listened to, valued and be positive about their future, ” said Mr Foster.
He added: “I am delighted that we were able to take part in this brilliant day focused on celebrating unity, kindness and community.”
