The Parliamentary standards watchdog is investigating the Reform UK Leader, Nigel Farage, over a potential breach of the MPs’ code of conduct.
Probe into register of interests
Farage, who has led Reform UK for over a year since stepping back up to the role, is reportedly under investigation for breaching article five of the MPs’ code of conduct.
According to parliament.uk the MP for Clacton is being investigated over a breach in relation to the registration of interests.
MPs must declare interests going back 12 months
Rule five of the code requires Members of Parliament to, within one month of their election, declare any interests or benefits received 12 months prior to their election.
Farage response
A spokesperson for Farage batted off the investigation saying the “Commissioner for Standards is doing his job.”
A bad week for Farage
The investigation comes not long after Farage demanded an apology from cabinet minister, Peter Kyle after he compared Farage to the prolific sex offender, Jimmy Savile.
This came after Farage voiced concerns over the government’s Online Safety Bill, suggesting it paves the way for worrying increases in state surveillance of private citizens.
The investigation is ongoing and details as to what precisely Farage is under investigation for are not yet available – but when they are we’ll let you know.
