This week the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) has been stepping beyond the concert hall with “CBSO in the City” – a series of free performances in everyday spaces like train stations, trams, galleries and gardens.

Led by music director Kazuki Yamada, the project aims to make classical music more accessible and joyful.

“No tickets, no barriers, no formalities,” is the guiding philosophy.

CBSO chief executive Emma Stenning said removing cost barriers is vital during tough economic times.

Backed by generous support, CBSO is performing across Birmingham from July 23 to 28, bringing orchestral music to new audiences in creative ways.

What’s left of the CBSO in the City performance schedule:

Friday 25 July (UPCOMING)

14:30: String quartet – Library of Birmingham

14:30: Woodwind quintet – Birmingham Botanical Gardens

 Saturday 26 July (UPCOMING)

12:30: Canal boat performance – Starting from the Roundhouse

 Monday 28 July (UPCOMING)

13:00 & 15:00: New Street Station

From Brahms to Star Wars, the CBSO is bringing free music to the heart of Birmingham. No tickets, no dress code – just show up and enjoy.
