Wolverhampton city council has become the first local authority in the West Midlands to introduce healthy, low-sugar ketchup into its schools.

With lower levels of sugar and salt, Real Good Ketchup is now on offer to children at mealtimes in 20 schools from this summer, the council said.

The ketchup will be offered in 20 schools

The all-natural ketchup removes a cube of sugar from every meal requiring a squirt of ketchup.

Chris East, head of service at Wolverhampton Catering Service, said: “School meals play an important role in a child’s education and eating a healthy balanced meal at lunchtime provides the nutrients they need to grow and thrive in the classroom.”

Healthier choice for children

With 80% less salt and free of the top 14 allergens, Real Good Ketchup is a safe choice for schools.

The ketchup has sugar and salt levels which meet national nutritional guidelines for children’s food.

It is already served in over 1,000 primary schools across the UK, with more councils and school caterers set to make the switch this year.
