The Invictus Games Foundation, which comes to Birmingham in 2027, was established following the success of the inaugural event in London in 2014.

Inspired by its impact, the Duke of Sussex and the Games’ Organising Committee envisioned the Games as the beginning of a global ‘Invictus’ movement – encouraging other cities and nations to join the cause.

The power of sport

Sport is a powerful catalyst for recovery for those who have been wounded, injured, or fallen ill during their service. Physical activity offers significant benefits for both body and mind, helping to restore strength, boost endurance and rebuild confidence.

The power of coaching

Coaching plays a vital role in the recovery journey of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans across the globe.

The Invictus Games Foundation has explored how effective coaching programmes support recovery by offering structure, motivation, and, most importantly, human connection. Coaching helps individuals rediscover a sense of identity and purpose, builds trust in the recovery process, and fosters a strong sense of community.

Studies also show that coaching can lead to better mental health, increased confidence and self-efficacy, and lasting physical and emotional wellbeing. When delivered in an inclusive, adaptive, and trauma-informed way, coaching becomes a powerful and indispensable part of healing.
