JLR launches STEM programme

West Midlands manufacturing giant Jaguar Land Rover has launched ‘Create Possible’ – a skills programme for schools designed to close the UK’s skills gap in science, technology, engineering and maths.

With demand for STEM skills outpacing supply in engineering, digital and manufacturing sectors, Create Possible aims to ensure young people across the West Midlands have the inspiration, resources and confidence to become the innovators of tomorrow.

The free, online scheme provides curriculum-linked lesson plans, interactive activities and Q&A videos with JLR employees.

The aim is to give young people hands-on insight into real-world careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

STEM – ‘just for boys’?

The launch follows a survey of 1,000 pupils revealing persistent misconceptions and barriers around STEM. Over a quarter of students believe STEM is “just for boys,” while girls remain underrepresented in extracurricular STEM activities. Regional disparities are stark with pupils in London nearly twice as likely as the national average to access extracurricular STEM opportunities.

Morgan Gore, JLR schools engagement lead, said: “Teachers face real pressures preparing students for a fast-changing world. Create Possible gives schools in the West Midlands and beyond the tools to inspire young people, uncover their strengths, and nurture the next generation of innovators.”

Create Possible builds on JLR’s commitment to youth futures including the Schools’ Partnership Programme, virtual work experiences engaging over 7,500 students and the JLR Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children with targeted programmes and partnerships.
