PFA Young Player of the Year honoured with ice statue of his ‘cold’ celebration

An ice statue of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers was today unveiled at Birmingham’s Bull Ring shopping centre to honour him being voted the 2024/25 Men’s PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) Young Player of the Year.

The ice carving was inspired by the 23-year-old, Halsowen-born midfielder’s signature ‘cold’ goal celebration.

Which player was the first to do the ‘cold’ celebration is “hotly disputed,” a news release from sportswear brand PUMA said – but WM News says winning the PFA award and having the moment marked in ice now makes it officially a Rogers move.

Lucynda Davies, PUMA managing director for UK & Ireland, said: “This sculpture is a playful tribute to a player who’s made his mark with skill, style, and ice-cold confidence.”

Whether or not it really looks like Rogers is in the eye of the beholder, however. WM News thinks not really. He’s far better-looking in real life than his ice icon. What say you?

Fans are encouraged to pop by the Bull Ring to give Morgan a true Brummie welcome and recreate his move with their own ‘cold’ poses.
