A new digital platform is set to transform volunteering in Birmingham, making it easier than ever for residents to give back to their communities.
Launched this week, Volunteer Brum connects local people with meaningful volunteer opportunities across the city. From food banks to arts festivals, the new platform is designed to match volunteers with causes that fit their skills, interests and availability – all in just a few clicks.
A gamechanger for charities
Organisations can post roles, track applications and even send automatic replies to interested volunteers. For charities, this could be a game-changer.
“This is a big step forward for how volunteering happens in Birmingham,” said Becky Isaac from BVSC, who leads the implementation of the Vision for Volunteering. “We’re making it easier than ever for people to get involved and give back. The potential for city-wide impact is huge.”
Local charity Re-engage was among the first to trial the platform. “We had a volunteer sign up within 42 hours,” said Shammie Robshaw-Bryan. “It’s easy to use, easy to manage, and makes a big difference to how we operate.”
Open to all
Volunteer Brum is open to everyone – from students to retirees – and includes a searchable listings tool so users can filter by location, cause, or time commitment. Organisations benefit from a streamlined admin system to help them reach new volunteers quickly.
One of those already making a difference is Jane, a group coordinator from Harborne who’s led a team of volunteers for over a decade, helping to combat loneliness through Re-engage’s social gatherings.
Birmingham’s community spirit has long been one of its defining strengths. Now, with Volunteer Brum, that spirit has a new digital home.
