In 2028 Los Angeles is set to stage the Olympic Games. But in light of recent events, it shouldn’t. The host city must be changed to another location in America with leaders capable of discerning between right and wrong and taking care of basics like law and order.
Street riots against ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) rooting out and deporting illegal immigrants, and taking steps to deter others minded to cross the border unlawfully, have drawn a perverse response from California governor Gavin Newson and LA city mayor Karen Bass – a response driven by their ideological revulsion to US president Donald Trump.
Instead of tackling this crime, they appear to be cheering it on.

“Largely peaceful” protesters threatening to burn federal buildings
Their response has prompted Trump to send in National Guard troops and US marines to protect, among other things, federal buildings in danger of being ransacked and set ablaze by what CNN and other left-wing media networks describe (laughably) as “largely peaceful” protesters.
Yes, Trump is seizing a political opportunity to undercut a potential future presidential candidate in Newsom and draw focus away from “Elongate.” That’s what politicians do. But it is also true to say that the response and messaging of Newson and Bass are as ineffective as they are dishonest.
Portraying right as wrong and vice versa
By taking the side of so many thousands of Latino and other illegal immigrants, and by portraying right as wrong and vice versa, Bass and Newsom have ceded moral authority to their political nemesis.
Trump says he doesn’t want repeats of the burning cities of 2020, which unfolded in the wake of George Floyd’s death. So he is taking steps to avoid it. Love him or hate him, there is a clear logic here.
Meanwhile, rather than saying thank you for the help, Newsom files a lawsuit opposing troops being deployed to install order in his state’s main city, while its mayor frames illegal immigrants – “papers or no papers” – as the victims she seeks to protect from federal law enforcement. Perverse.

LA wildfires were similarly mismanaged
All this in a city which at the start of the year was beset by wildfires that burned far longer and did billions of dollars more damage than they should have done.
The common thread with today’s street riots is the left-wing “woke” ideology of LA and California’s political leaders, whose focus is on pronouns and “diversity” rather than reality, and as such they are incapable of dealing decisively with the disorder on their streets.
This debilitating wokeness led to water supplies being ineptly managed and forest fire breaks being abandoned years earlier supposedly in the name of protecting biodiversity, much of which then went up in smoke. Add to this a fire service hiring policy driven by DEI tokenism rather than capability, and the fiery chaos was inevitable.
The grown-ups must remain in charge
Today we see a similarly dishonest local leadership approach to another major problem – illegal immigration. The clue’s in the name – “illegal.” Thank goodness Trump, for all his faults, can still discern what’s legal and what’s illegal, what’s obviously right and wrong, and acts accordingly.
Unless and until Newson and Bass acquire this ability to make basic judgments on these matters, they cannot be trusted to be in charge. Which means LA needs the grown-ups to keep order – and the Olympics needs a new host city.
Easier said than done, granted, with an International Olympic Committee drawn from the same stock of woke ideologues, who at the 2024 Paris Games were unable to accurately discern the difference between a male and a female boxer. It doesn’t bode well.
