West Midlands Police is throwing more resources at getting criminals off the roads.

Its third road crime team (RCT) will support its roads policing unit (RPU) in unmarked, high-performance cars and interceptor devices to hunt down and arrest criminals.

As well as chasing down car-jackers and other bad guys, the new team will target the four fatal driving offences: speeding, drink/drug driving, mobile phone use and not wearing seatbelts.

In the last three months more than £1m of stolen vehicles have been recovered by Road Crime Team officers with more than 50 people arrested and lots drugs and cash seized.

Superintendent Gareth Mason, head of roads policing in the West Midlands, said: “We are absolutely dedicated to making the roads of the region safer, and targeting the criminals who use them.”
