Former West Midlands mayor and ex Scottish Conservative leader unveil new political movement
Sir Andy Street and Baroness Ruth Davidson have launched a new centre-right political movement called Prosper UK, positioning it as a platform for moderate, pragmatic conservatism rather than a new political party.
The initiative brings together senior political figures, business leaders, and policy specialists who argue that millions of voters feel unrepresented by the current direction of mainstream politics.
Prosper UK aims to attract millions of centre-right voters disillusioned with current parties
Andy Street, who served two terms as Mayor of the West Midlands, said Prosper UK was designed to appeal to voters who support enterprise, public service reform, and economic growth but feel alienated by increasingly polarised politics.
The movement claims there are around seven million voters who identify as broadly centre right but no longer feel comfortable with existing party options.
Street and Davidson say movement will influence policy debate rather than form a new party
Ruth Davidson said Prosper UK would not stand candidates or seek to replace established parties, but instead aims to shape policy debate and encourage a return to what she described as “competent, optimistic, mainstream politics”.
Both founders stressed that the group is focused on ideas, not internal party power struggles.
Business leaders and former ministers back Prosper UK policy-focused platform
Supporters of the movement include former Conservative ministers and senior figures from business and industry. Early policy priorities are expected to focus on economic growth, skills, housing delivery, and support for wealth creation alongside social responsibility.
Sir Andy Street’s new role keeps West Midlands voice in national political debate
For the West Midlands, Street’s involvement ensures continued regional representation in national policy discussions. His mayoral record placed strong emphasis on investment, skills, and regeneration, themes that are expected to feature prominently in Prosper UK’s future work.
Prosper UK plans to hold a series of public events and policy discussions across the UK in the coming months.
