Skydive for Women’s Aid

Three skydiving colleagues from a Birmingham cybersecurity firm have raised more than £2,000 to help build safe houses for women and girls fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

On Saturday (July 12), three weeks after bad weather forced them to postpone their skydive, initially diarised for June 21, the trio from Hubtel IT jumped out of a plane at 14,000ft to raise funds for Black Country Women’s Aid – as evidenced by the accompanying video.

Hubtel IT’s CEO Neil Bayliss, business development manager Julian Brettle and Mike Leach, third-line support engineer, took to the skies at Langar Airfield in Nottingham.

The skydive has so far raised £2,210 for the charity’s ‘Key to a New Life’ campaign, aiming to raise sufficient funds to build 10 new dwellings for mothers and children fleeing domestic violence and abuse. Helping vulnerable people escape domestic violence and abuse

Neil, 47, said: “It was awesome. I loved every second. But what made it even more special was knowing why we were doing it – to help vulnerable people escape domestic violence and abuse, which, sadly, is on the rise in the West Midlands region.”

Sara Ward, CEO of Black Country Women’s Aid, said: “We are very grateful to Neil, Julian and Mike from Hubtel for taking this leap of faith in aid of our Key to a New Life campaign.”

Hubtel IT is BCWA’s IT and cybersecurity solution partner, working 24/7 to keep the organisation’s systems and data protected from online threats.

Neil added: “Our services ensure BCWA can deliver its vital help to people who most need it in a cyber-safe environment – and, as highlighted by recent high-profile cyber-attacks at big brands including M&S and Co-op, that’s never been more important.”
