NATO airspace breached
The UK has summoned Russia’s ambassador after what officials described as “significant and unprecedented” violations of NATO airspace.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) condemned Russian drone incursions into Poland last week, followed by a further breach of Romanian airspace on Saturday.
An FCDO spokesperson said the UK “stands united with Poland, Romania, Ukraine and our NATO Allies in unreservedly condemning these reckless actions.”
NATO response escalates
NATO forces have already stepped up defences along the eastern flank, deploying counter-drone technology and strengthening patrols. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed on Friday that the alliance was treating the incidents with the utmost seriousness.
British officials warned Moscow that further violations would “again be met with force,” stressing that Russia’s actions had only deepened NATO’s resolve to support Ukraine and defend European security.
Unity against aggression
The FCDO reiterated that defending Ukraine is central to the safety of the whole continent, including the UK. “Russia should understand that its continued aggression only strengthens the unity between NATO allies,” the spokesperson added.
London also repeated its call for Moscow to end its “illegal war on Ukraine,” describing the airspace breaches as another sign of the Kremlin’s disregard for international law and regional stability.
