Birmingham Business News Leadership Solihull

Women-friendly firms recognised

Brum-based Fuel Bank Foundation second in the UK

Two Birmingham firms and one from Solihull are in the UK’s top 10 small businesses for women to work, according to a new report.

The Birmingham office of Fuel Bank Foundation placed second in the small business subsection of the “Best Workplaces for Women” category in national rankings compiled by Great Place To Work, the workplace benchmarking firm.

Fuel Bank was pipped to first spot by a company called Happy, a London consultancy specialising in making clients’ workplaces happier.

Bagging fifth place was Solihull-based The Marketing Pod, a B2B marketing agency specialising in sustainable energy, utilities and regulated industries, followed in sixth by Flourish Education, a Birmingham firm which sources teachers for schools and colleges.

The Marketing Pod shouted loudest – so we’re talking about them

Because folks at The Marketing Pod were savvy enough to send us a press release, we’re going to talk about them for the rest of this piece. That’s how PR works.

A staff survey by Great Place To Work found 92% of The Marketing Pod’s staff, known as ‘Podsters’, said it was a great place to work – well above the 54% national average.

And 97% of Podsters said the company “provided a physically safe workplace, fair treatment, delivered on promises and showed a willingness to go the extra mile.”

In 12 years The Marketing Pod team has grown to 42

Founded in 2013 by Jodie Williams and Jen Hughes at a kitchen table, The Marketing Pod has grown to a 42‑strong team serving UK and global clients and specialising in strategy, creative, content, PR and digital.

Jodie, director and co‑founder, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Women.

“This recognition means so much because it comes from our people. Creating a workplace where women can succeed without compromise has always been part of our mission.”

‘A culture that empowers every Podster’

Jen, director and co‑founder, added: “From day one we set out to build a business that worked differently – not just for our clients but for our team.

“We’ve worked hard to create a culture that empowers every Podster to bring their whole selves to work and grow with confidence. We’re immensely proud to see that celebrated on a national stage.”
