Easter: Don’t go by train

Network Rail is advising people to avoid travelling by train between London Euston and Scotland over the Easter bank holiday while track upgrades take place.

Between Friday April 18 and Monday April 21, the taxpayer-funded firm which manages the UK’s rail infrastructure says it will be renewing switches and crossings (movable sections of track) and improving track drainage on the West Coast Main Line.

No trains will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central on Saturday April 19, Sunday 20 and Monday 21 with Euston station closed on each of these days. A reduced timetable will operate on Friday April 18.

“Passengers are advised to travel before or after the Easter weekend to avoid longer journeys and some rail replacement services,” a Network Rail spokesperson said..

Engineers will be finalising the connection of a new rail freight interchange at Northampton. Improvements are also being made to passenger facilities at Euston. Sections of track are being replaced at Hemel Hempstead. Track drainage is  being installed near Leighton Buzzard.
