According to a report shared by the X (Twitter) account @sentdefender, the US has reportedly reassumed control of Bagram Air Base in eastern Afghanistan.
The claim originates from Afghan news outlet Khaama Press, which suggests that the move was made at the request of the Taliban government.
Several US Air Force C-17 transporter aircraft were seen arriving at Bagram last week, reportedly carrying military vehicles, equipment and senior intelligence officials, including Deputy Director of the CIA, Michael Ellis, it was reported.
Flight tracker data has corroborated the arrival of these aircraft, although no official confirmation has yet been issued by either the US government or Taliban authorities, the sources said..
This development, if true, would mark the first significant US military redeployment to Afghanistan since its withdrawal in 2021.
The report adds that while the move may seem unexpected to some, Bagram and Afghanistan remain of high strategic value for any future US operations, particularly in the context of growing tensions with Iran and China.
According to the post, an official announcement from the US military regarding the reassumption of control over Bagram could be expected in April – potentially even within the coming days.
We will continue monitoring for official statements and further developments.
