Tickets for an exhibition train celebrating the 200th anniversary of the railway have gone on sale.

Chiltern railways said its ‘exhibition train’ will be travelling across the country this summer. Tickets are now on sale at Birmingham Moor Street station.

There will be four “special carriages”

Organisers have said  guests will be able to board the train and view four special carriages in 15 minute periods. The exhibition is set to last three days between July 8 and 10.

Branded the ‘centrepiece’ of the extensive Railway 200 programme, the train, named Inspiration, is part of the national celebration of the 200th anniversary of the modern railway.

The West Midlands has been vital to the railway industry

With the train making its first visit to the Severn Valley Railway, the West Midlands has been placed at the heart of the national campaign – highlighting the regions deep railway history, culture and heritage.

The four carriages on the train will offer guests experiences from both the past and the future of the railway whilst providing an insight into railway careers and the work of different partners in running the industry.

Tony Baxter, Operations Director at Chiltern Railways, said: “Birmingham Moor Street is a special station in the heart of the West Midlands and with tickets available now, it is fitting that this celebratory train will be showcased at one of the most renowned stations on the Chiltern network.”

A collaborative project to celebrate an important part of British history

The project is in collaboration between various organisations involved in the railway including Chiltern Railways, Network Rail, the National Railway Museum and GB Freight. The railway sector encourages people from across the region to take part in the Railway 200 celebrations – to celebrate a sector with such rich roots in our historic industrial region.
