A 77-tonne footbridge has been craned into place at the new Willenhall railway station.
The delicate overnight operation required a 450-tonne crane to lift sections of the footbridge into position.
Starting at 0100 on Sunday, a team of nine engineers slotted in two lift shafts, bridge pods and a 22-tonne bridge span.
The installation was captured in a timelapse video released by Transport for the West Midlands (TfWM).
This comes after the recent creation of a new station at nearby Darlaston, also on the Black Country route, which is set to see passenger train services start running in early 2026.
Richard Parker, mayor of the West Midlands, said: “The installation of the footbridge at Willenhall Station, hot on the heels of the Darlaston station works, represents a big stride forward for this project.”
Councillor Adrian Andrew, deputy leader of Walsall Council, said: “When the station opens it will be a great asset for the people of Willenhall, better connecting residents to the wider West Midlands network. Reaching this milestone is great news for the borough.”
These new Black Country stations are part of a broader package of West Midlands rail upgrades, which include three new stations in south Birmingham on the Camp Hill rail route, also set to reopen soon.
