Trump claims credit for maintaining world peace

Donald Trump today claimed his presidency is the only thing standing between the world and “six major wars” – including a potential conflict between India and Pakistan.

Speaking at a joint news conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a golf trip to Scotland, Trump said: “If I weren’t around, you’d have, right now, six major wars going on. India would be fighting with Pakistan.”

The remarks, made against the scenic backdrop of Trump’s Turnberry golf resort, stunned observers and drew sceptical reactions from journalists and foreign policy experts.

Starmer, who stood beside the US President, gave no direct response to the comment, instead pivoting quickly to talk of transatlantic cooperation.

War claims met with doubt

Trump, who is currently in his second term in office, has made similar boasts before – but this is the first time he has made such sweeping claims while visiting the UK.

The statement was delivered unprompted during questions about NATO funding and global security.

Golf and geopolitics

The visit to Scotland, billed as a mixture of diplomacy and downtime, has raised eyebrows due to its relaxed setting and Trump’s unfiltered rhetoric.

Whether the world agrees is another matter – but Trump appears determined to drive the message home: peace, he says, is par for the course when he’s in charge.
