Five candidates are confirmed for the Pelsall Ward by-election, set for Thursday 11 September 11, after the surprising resignation of the ward’s former councillor, Garry Perry, earlier this month.

Perry, who previously led Walsall Council from June 2024 to May 2025, cited personal loss and disillusionment with local politics – describing its culture as “tone-deaf to challenge” and lacking in transparency – as his reasons for stepping down.

With the seat now vacant, local procedures were triggered when two or more sitting councillors formally requested a by-election – ensuring that residents won’t have to wait until the next scheduled elections in May 2026

The Pelsall by-election will be closely watched as parties compete for influence on Walsall Council. Turnout and local issues are expected to shape the outcome, with the winner set to be announced shortly after the polls close.
