Celebrity stylist takes top honour
Celebrity hairdresser Jay Birmingham has been named Industry Icon at the Hair and Beauty Awards (HBA) 2025, a brand-new category launched to celebrate the industry’s most influential figures.
Birmingham, whose star-studded client list includes Maya Jama, Rochelle Humes, Amelia Dimoldenberg and Munroe Bergdorf, was selected directly by a panel of industry experts rather than entering through the standard application process. The judges recognised his rapid rise, creative vision and influence across both the celebrity and consumer beauty worlds.
Recognition of global impact
Now a household name in hairdressing, Birmingham has styled for red carpet events, magazine covers and high-profile brand collaborations. His expertise is also sought after by major publications. In 2023, he launched Jay B Haircare, a premium product range already embraced by both professionals and consumers.
The award was presented at the HBA Grand Final on 30 August at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. The black-tie evening included a red-carpet reception, fine dining, trophy presentations and entertainment from The Wanted.
Emotional acceptance speech
In his acceptance speech, Birmingham reflected on his journey: “When I think about where it all started, I remember those first clients who gave me a chance when I was still finding my feet. They believed in me before the world knew my name.”
He added: “This has never been just a job for me. It’s been my passion, my purpose, and sometimes… my entire life. Every bit of that heat, that hustle, that heart led me here.”
The Industry Icon title cements Birmingham’s position as one of the UK’s most influential hair professionals, with his work continuing to inspire peers and clients alike.
