West Midlands Railway partners with theatre charity to refresh platform displays

Two new banners of children’s art have gone on display at Marston Green station.

They were commissioned by West Midlands Railway (WMR) in collaboration with Birmingham-based theatre-in-education charity Big Brum.

Building on the success of the 2024 ‘Trains of Thought’ project, the refreshed displays were inspired by railway-themed workshops that Big Brum held with pupils from Marston Green Infant Academy.

The banners feature direct quotes from the children, captured as they played, danced and painted their own railway carriages.

The artwork was officially revealed at a station event attended by teachers, students and parents from the academy.

Cara Higgs, community strategy manager at WMR, said: “The ‘Trains of Thought’ project celebrates imagination, and who better to remind us to think more creatively than four and five-year-olds? We hope these artworks encourage our Marston Green customers to reflect on where their train of thought takes them during their journey with us, and most of all, we hope they make people smile.”

Big Brum is an Arts Council England-funded charity delivering live theatre, workshops and teacher support to schools across the West Midlands.
