NHS is prioritising the aged and those with weakened immune systems
Thousands of people across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Stoke-on-Trent are being urged to come forward for their spring COVID-19 vaccination as the NHS deploys the next phase of its seasonal protection programme.
The vaccine is being offered to those most at risk of serious illness, including adults aged 75 and over, care home residents, and anyone aged six months and over with a weakened immune system.
Local walk-in clinics are available alongside booked appointments, making it easier for residents across the region to get protected.
Making vaccinations as easy as possible
Rachel Robinson, Director of Public Health, and Matthew Missen, Consultant in Public Health for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, said: “We know people lead busy lives, so we’ve made it as easy as possible to get vaccinated, including convenient walk-in clinics.
“Protection can reduce over time, so it’s important to top up your immunity when eligible. You don’t need to wait for an invitation.”
Local GP Dr Steve Fawcett added: “COVID-19 isn’t just a winter illness. Even in spring and summer it can pose a serious risk to the most vulnerable, and the spring vaccination offers vital protection against different variants of the virus.”
Book on app
Residents can book via the NHS App, online or by calling 119. The NHS is also encouraging eligible groups to get their RSV vaccination, which may be available at the same appointment.
Those yet to be contacted should visit the NHS website or speak to their GP practice.
