Fleet of 36 electric trains has transformed services out of London Euston
Millions of passengers have travelled on London Northwestern Railway’s (LNR) new Class 730/2 electric train fleet in its first year in service, the operator has confirmed.
Built in the UK by Alstom, the 36 five-carriage trains entered service on June 9, 2025, on the route between Northampton and London Euston before being extended to the Trent Valley Line between Crewe and Euston in December 2025.
The fleet has increased capacity on LNR’s Euston routes by a fifth, said the operator.
Satisfaction on the rise
Customer satisfaction has risen by 20% on Trent Valley Line services and by 10% on the Northampton route. A timetable change in May added 42,000 extra seats per week across LNR’s Euston services.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at LNR, said: “These modern electric trains have made a massive difference for the millions of commuter and leisure passengers who travel on our services to and from London Euston every year.
“It’s fantastic to see how our customer satisfaction scores have risen since their introduction 12 months ago.”
LNR was named Train Operator of the Year at the 2026 Rail Business Awards.
To mark the anniversary, thousands of half-price tickets are available via the LNR app before June 21 for travel up to July 31.
