A group of barristers completed a gruelling 100km trek across the Sahara Desert to raise £100,000 for a leukemia charity.
The six legal practitioners, along with the Joe Wilson, CEO of the St Philips chambers in Birmingham, joined 30 others on the five-day walk in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Carter the Brave, named after teenage leukemia sufferer Carter Chatting.
Joe said: “We did it – £100,000 raised. A grand per km, which was our goal. It was tougher than we all imagined, but what an experience. A massive thank you to everyone who supported. While we’ve reached the finish line, there’s still time to donate and make a difference. Every contribution helps.”

Carter the Brave is a charity set up by Lucy and Matt Chatting, from Lichfield, whose son Carter, 13, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2016.
His mother started fundraising while Carter was an in-patient on the cancer ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where underwent years of gruelling treatment before going into remission in 2019.
“If ever we started feeling sorry for ourselves, we remembered Carter’s bravery and resilience in far tougher circumstances, which is an example to all of us,” added Joe.
