A new children’s roleplay café and inclusive community space has launched in Smethwick.
Backed by Business Growth West Midlands
The facility is supported by Business Growth West Midlands (BGWM), a service created by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to help small businesses grow.
Pippatopia, founded by former science teacher Rachel Butler and named after her daughter Pippa, offers immersive play areas, a sensory room and regular sessions for families, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It aims to build confidence, creativity and community through play.
Start-up grant support
Rachel received a £3,000 start-up grant through BGWM’s Start-Up Programme and business mentoring from the Sandwell team. “The support I received from Helen and Business Growth West Midlands Sandwell has been truly transformational,” she said. “They helped me every step of the way to bring my vision for Pippatopia to life.”
The business has already created new jobs and is planning further expansion with ongoing BGWM support.
Part of a wider mission
BGWM is part of the WMCA’s wider mission to grow the region’s economy by helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access funding, adopt digital technologies and create jobs. WMCA was established to transfer powers and funding from central government to the region, working with 18 local councils to deliver inclusive growth.
West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker said: “Rachel has realised her dream and created a wonderful resource for local families. Helping businesses like hers to grow is exactly what our regional economy needs.”
