Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced it will “pause” shipments of its vehicles to America this month in the wake of President Donald Trump imposing 25% tariffs on UK auto imports.
The West Midlands-based firm said in a statement to media outlets: “As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are taking some short-term actions, including a shipment pause in April as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans.”
One of JLR’s main markets is the US, making the company particularly vulnerable to a newly protectionist American administration’s import levies.
Industry analysts fear up to 25,000 UK auto sector jobs could be affected as a result of the potential resulting down-tick in demand from the US, which historically has received more than 12% of all UK-made cars.
JLR’s announcement over the weekend of its US shipment “pause” comes after the firm published “robust” Q3 results. Following the imposition of Trump’s tariffs, the outlook for JLR has changed.
