MP: Protect single-sex spaces

Bromsgrove MP Bradley Thomas is backing a parliamentary motion protecting biological sex-based spaces.

This comes after the recent UK Supreme Court ruling that the words “man,” “woman,” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex.

Bradley signed the Early Day Motion demanding urgent clarification to uphold integrity of single-sex spaces and services, including changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons, refuges, toilet, and sports in order to safeguard the dignity, privacy, and safety of women and girls.

The motion makes clear that the rights of transgender individuals must be respected – but not at the expense of biological women’s rights.

Common sense ruling now needs putting into action

Bradley said: “I’ve signed this motion to put pressure on the Government to urgently get on with the job of publishing clear updated guidance to ensure single-sex spaces are protected.”

He added: “The Supreme Court’s ruling was a victory for common sense. Now the Government must do the important work of protecting single-sex spaces and upholding the rights and well-being of women and girls across our country.
