Dudley NHS Foundation Trust is to receive £318,000 in funding from Great British Energy to fit solar panels on its hospitals.
It is estimated this investment could save the trust up to £1m on their energy bills over panels’ operational lifetime.
MP for Dudley, Sonia Kumar, said: “This is a fantastic investment for Dudley that will see hospitals saving thousands of pounds on their energy bills.”
The NHS’ annual energy bill has doubled to £1.4bn a year since 2019 due to the UK’s dependency on fossil fuel markets.
Labour’s ‘Plan for change’
Through Great British Energy, Labour says it is delivering on its “Plan for Change” by boosting energy independence, investing in public services and delivering lower bills for communities.
The Government said £12 million will be put aside for local authorities and community energy groups to build local clean energy projects, including onshore wind turbines, rooftop solar panels and hydropower schemes.
Forty-nine schools across the West Midlands will receive funding for solar panels alongside six NHS sites.
The first panels are expected to be installed by the end of summer 2025.
