Iran regime a global threat

The US strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities was not only justified – it was essential. For too long, the Iranian regime has threatened the security of the West, financed terrorism and subjected millions of its own citizens to brutal repression. The idea that such a regime could obtain or weaponise nuclear technology should be cause for global alarm, not global handwringing.

Donald Trump’s announcement that US forces struck Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan represents a turning point – not just in the spiralling tensions in the Middle East, but in a broader stand against extremism. Iran has repeatedly defied international norms, concealed key elements of its nuclear programme, and harboured ambitions that directly endanger global stability. When diplomacy is met with duplicity, deterrence must take its place.

Iran funds Hamas, Hezbollah and other terror proxies

Let’s be clear: Iran is not a misunderstood nation pursuing energy independence. It is a theocratic regime that funds groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, exports violence, and props up autocracies. It has used its oil revenues not to develop its society but to spread ideological warfare, with the West as a constant target.

Some will say this strike escalates the risk of a wider war. But what is the alternative – appeasement? Endless negotiation while Iran buries centrifuges deeper underground? The international community has tried that route for years. The result has been an emboldened regime, not a reformed one. What Iran has done to Israel for decades through its proxies it would do to the UK if we were closer.

America and Israel are right to curb Iran

The moral clarity of this action matters. Too often the West is accused of abandoning its principles for realpolitik. But this strike reinforces a red line: tyrants who threaten the world with nuclear weapons will be stopped. Not talked down, not placated – stopped.

The regime in Tehran is not the Iranian people. They deserve freedom, prosperity and peace – the kind you can still find clips of on YouTube before the Islamic fundamentalists took over 46 years ago. But those hopes will remain fantasies as long as the Ayatollahs remain in power, building weapons while crushing dissent. If this strike curtails their nuclear ambition, even temporarily, it is a step toward a safer Middle East – and a braver foreign policy.

America acted. Others should follow.
