Wolverhampton firm Pallet-Track has become the first in the UK to introduce an AI-powered forklift safety system following a £100,000 investment in new technology.
The company partnered with US logistics tech specialist Samsara to create a bespoke solution for its fleet of forklift trucks – technology that, until now, has been widely used for HGVs but not yet seen in UK warehouses.
The system uses tracking, cameras, and AI to monitor driver behaviour, analyse harsh braking, detect signs of drowsiness, and identify areas for improvement. Facial recognition allows it to recognise individual drivers across any vehicle, helping ensure consistent safety standards.
Anthony Ratchford, Head of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality at Pallet-Track, said the move was about “leading the way for forklift safety” and ensuring driver behaviour “remains first-class”. The long-term aim is to introduce target safety scores for drivers, with refresher training provided if needed.
CEO Stuart Godman said the innovation was “game-changing for the industry” and would help maintain hub safety during a period of rapid growth.
Pallet-Track’s network includes more than 90 shareholder members, collectively moving over four million pallets each year.
