Carlsberg Britvic moves in
South Staffordshire is celebrating a double economic win after global drinks giant Carlsberg Britvic confirmed it will move into the West Midlands Interchange, just days after the long-awaited M54-M6 link road was given the go-ahead by Government.
The brewery powerhouse will become the first occupier at the new strategic site, investing £4 million in a 222,000 sq ft depot near Junction 12 of the M6. Work is already under way, with operations set to open in 2026.
Until then, deliveries and operations will continue from Carlsberg Britvic’s existing Wolverhampton base before the logistics hub makes a phased transition.
Major road upgrade approved
The £200 million M54-M6 link road will connect the two motorways’ northbound carriageways between Laney Green and Featherstone, easing congestion and slashing journey times.
The scheme is expected to generate between £550m and £640m in economic benefits, boosting access to employment sites across the district – particularly the new rail freight interchange at Four Ashes.
Councillor Kath Perry, leader of South Staffordshire Council, hailed both announcements as transformative: “The news of world-renowned Carlsberg Britvic coming to the West Midlands Interchange as the site’s first tenant is absolutely tremendous. The link road is fantastic news for the district; creating accessibility to jobs, reducing congestion and boosting our economy. It is truly a week of economic wins and a double boost for the district.”
Building on momentum
The announcements also dovetail with the council’s wider Central Edge project, unveiled earlier this year, which aims to promote the A449 corridor and capitalise on advanced manufacturing opportunities across Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire.
With a household name committing to new facilities and major infrastructure finally approved, local leaders say the area is better positioned than ever to attract further investment and jobs.
