New Birmingham hub launched
Fletchers Solicitors has opened a new Birmingham office following the acquisition of Shoosmiths’ nationally respected serious injury and clinical negligence teams.
The move brings more than 80 colleagues, including eight partners, into Fletchers. The team will be led locally by former Shoosmiths partner Phil Barnes, a specialist in clinical negligence who becomes Head of Fletchers Midlands and South.
Strengthening regional presence
The Birmingham team has a long track record in high-value clinical negligence and personal injury cases. Their addition significantly boosts Fletchers’ presence across the Midlands and reinforces the firm’s position as one of the UK’s leading serious injury practices.
Barnes said: “We’re excited to be bringing our experience and reputation to Fletchers as part of its growing Midlands presence. There’s real alignment in values, ambition, and client focus, and we’re looking forward to building something even stronger together here in Birmingham.”
The new office, at 31 Temple Street in the city centre, houses 38 colleagues and forms one of Fletchers’ newest regional hubs.
National growth strategy
Fletchers, headquartered in Manchester, now operates across multiple UK cities including Cambridge, Leeds and Newcastle. The Birmingham expansion marks its ninth acquisition in three years.
Charlene Mann, Managing Director of Acquisitions at Fletchers, said: “Birmingham is a critical part of our strategy to expand nationally and attract top-tier legal talent. This is a high-performing, highly respected team that’s a great cultural and strategic fit for Fletchers. We’re immensely proud to welcome them aboard.”
Building scale and expertise
The deal continues Fletchers’ rapid growth since its acquisition by an affiliate of Sun European Partners in 2021. The group employs more than 1,000 people across its offices and is home to specialist legal brands including Serious Injury Law, Minton Morrill, Cycle SOS, and Patient Claim Line.
Its mission remains to rebuild the lives of people affected by serious and life-changing injuries, ensuring they have the best possible future after injury.
