Peaky Blinders is back

Two new series to be filmed in Birmingham

The Shelby family is coming home. The BBC and Netflix have announced the return of Peaky Blinders with two brand-new series, marking a bold new chapter for the globally acclaimed Birmingham crime saga.

Created and written by Steven Knight, the next generation of Peaky Blinders will be filmed at Digbeth Loc. Studios, right in the heart of Birmingham – the city that made the Shelbys.

The production will be the first major commission under the BBC’s new partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Create Central, designed to boost investment and jobs in the region’s creative industries.

A new generation takes over

Set in 1953, the series picks up in the aftermath of the Second World War as Birmingham rises from the rubble of the Blitz.

The city’s massive reconstruction project becomes a battleground for power, money and influence – and the Shelby family, once again, stands at the centre of it all.

Knight said: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.

“Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz.

“The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel – and it will be a hell of a ride.”

West Midlands hailed as new creative hub

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker hailed the announcement as “a proud moment” for the region.

“Peaky Blinders is a worldwide phenomenon that’s boosted our tourism and global reach,” he said.

“Bringing the production back home means real job opportunities for local people – and shows why the West Midlands is becoming the creative capital of the UK.”

Filming at Digbeth Loc. Studios – which Knight helped establish – cements Birmingham’s growing role in the British film and television industry, with the WMCA and the BBC pledging long-term investment in regional production.

Global partnership and fan excitement

The two new six-part series will be produced by Kudos (SAS Rogue Heroes, Grantchester) and Garrison Drama, in partnership with Netflix for worldwide distribution.

BBC Drama director Lindsay Salt said: “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago. Steven has worked his magic once again – and I can’t wait to see this new era brought to life in Birmingham.”

Netflix’s Mona Qureshi added: “There are few storytellers like Steven Knight. Along with our global audience, we’re ready to be captivated anew.”

From local legend to global icon

Since debuting in 2013, Peaky Blinders has grown from a gritty BBC drama into a worldwide cultural phenomenon, inspiring fashion, tourism and even a feature film.

With filming set to begin later this year, fans can expect the Shelbys to return in true Peaky style – sharp suits, sharper blades, and plenty of fire in Birmingham’s industrial heart.

All six previous series of Peaky Blinders are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
