Trade mission delivers regional wins

The Prime Minister’s two-day trade trip to Mumbai has unlocked 10,600 new UK jobs – with the Midlands in line for a share as Indian investors expand manufacturing, mobility and tech links with the region.

Investment touches Birmingham, Warwick

Among 64 Indian investments worth £1.3bn UK-wide, several name the Midlands directly.

TVS Motor will invest £250m over five years in Norton Motorcycles, e-bikes and more – partnering with the University of Warwick on mobility research and product development, and creating 300 UK jobs.

Zepul plans to invest £2m and create more than 100 jobs across London and Birmingham.

Brandhill will invest £3m, creating 25 roles across London and Birmingham.

Advanced engineering boost

Deals in e-mobility, aerospace and advanced manufacturing are expected to feed Midlands supply chains.

Hero Motors Company will invest £100m in UK engineering and design across e-mobility and aerospace, while Modtech plans £17m for automation and investment casting technologies.

Consultancy wins, including Arup’s traction power work on India’s high-speed rail, strengthen the region’s transport and infrastructure expertise.

Creative and fintech spillovers

A slate of UK announcements into India – from Graphcore’s £1bn AI campus to Revolut and Tide expansions – is expected to support Midlands tech jobs through exports and shared R&D. Meanwhile, major studio Yash Raj Films will shoot three blockbusters in the UK from 2026, adding to nationwide screen sector demand that Midlands locations have increasingly tapped.

‘Opening doors for business’

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the visit “secured new investments into the UK” and “opened doors” for British firms in India after July’s UK-India trade deal.

Officials say further regional opportunities will follow as firms finalise sites, with local authorities and growth hubs primed to land projects in the West Midlands and wider Midlands Engine.
