Financial Planning Week 2026 runs from Jan 26 to Feb 1

West Brom Building Society supported 2,925 children and young people with financial education during 2025 through a programme delivered in schools and colleges by its branch network colleagues, the firm said.

Throughout the year, reps from the firm visited primary schools, secondary schools and further education settings across the region, delivering interactive sessions designed to help young people understand money, saving and everyday financial decision-making.

Educating youngsters to be financially savvy

These ‘Money Go Round’ financial fitness sessions are delivered face-to-face by branch colleagues who volunteer their time, helping bring financial education to life and encouraging open conversations about money at an early age.

Mel Bradburn, Wolverhampton senior branch manager, who regularly delivers the sessions, said: “Money can feel daunting for young people, but once they start talking about it, you see their confidence grow.”

Heather Hazley, head of distribution at West Brom Building Society, said: “Financial education is a vital life skill, and helping young people build confidence around money is an important part of our role in our communities.

“Our branch colleagues are passionate about supporting our local communities, and delivering these sessions in schools allows them to share practical, real-world knowledge that can make a genuine difference.

“Reaching nearly 3,000 young people over the last year shows us that financial education matters to our young people.”

Financial Planning Week 2026 – getting more people wise with their money

West Brom Building Society plans to continue delivering financial education sessions in 2026, working closely with schools and colleges to support the next generation of savers and borrowers.

The fact WM News is running this story today is no coincidence. January 26 to February 1 is Financial Planning Week 2026 – a nationwide CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment) initiative urging UK financial advisers to give up some of their time for free to help people not yet in the know.

Depledge offers 15 free financial planning consultations

Among the firms involved in FP Week is Depldge Strategic Wealth Management, based in Manchester.

Andrew Day, director of financial planning at Depledge, said he wanted to help increase this percentage by offering 15 free consultations across FP Week.

“Less than 9% of the UK population get financial advice, but so many more people could benefit from it,” he said.

“When people eventually do get a financial plan in place they’re always glad because they then have a clear route for the future. It’s like decluttering the back room. When you finally do it, you feel so much better. That’s the human psyche.”
