Worcester Theatres’ Performance Hub students bring Jordan Tannahill’s Concord Floral to the Swan Studio this June
Students from Worcester Theatres’ Performance Hub will stage their end-of-year production this month, bringing award-winning Canadian play Concord Floral to the Swan Studio from June 22 to 24.
The production marks the culmination of the first year of study for students aged 16 to 19 on the theatre’s Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, which provides practical training across drama, dance, music and musical theatre.
Written by Jordan Tannahill, Concord Floral won the 2015 Dora Award for Outstanding New Play and the Carol Bolt Award, and was shortlisted for the 2016 Governor General’s Award for Drama.
The play follows a group of teenagers who discover a traumatic secret in an abandoned greenhouse that serves as their local hangout, setting off an unsettling chain of events.
A story of guilt and raw human emotion
Aaron Corbett, Youth Tutor at WT Performance Hub, said: “At its heart, Concord Floral is a story about guilt. We wanted to strip back the layers of the characters and bring out the raw, visceral energy of these teenagers.”
Mr Corbett added: “Our learners have created a tense, intimate and profound performance. We are extremely excited to bring it to life.”
Tickets are priced at £7 and the production is suitable for audiences aged 15 and above.
