Global gaming festival with £1.3m prize pool comes to Birmingham

E-sports and digital creators attend DreamHack at NEC from March 27 to 29

One of the world’s largest gaming festivals is making its UK debut today.

DreamHack Birmingham runs from Friday until Sunday at the NEC near Birmingham.

The three-day event, which has previously taken place in cities including Atlanta, Stockholm and Dallas, is expected to draw tens of thousands across its expo halls, esports arenas and creator stages.

Among the headline acts are YouTube collective the Sidemen – Simon (Miniminter), Josh (Zerkaa) and Tobi (TBJZL) – who will appear on Saturday for a live game show session.

Content group, the Bov Boys, will headline Friday’s programme. DM Tommy Gofton will also bring the cast of Squad 20 to the DreamHack Stage, alongside voice actors from titles including Arcane and Apex Legends.

£1.3m in esports winnings up for grabs 

In esports, competitions across Call of Duty, Dota 2, Halo Infinite and F1 Sim Racing will share a collective prize pool of £1.3 million. 

Sixteen of the world’s top Dota 2 teams will compete for a $1 million prize, while the Call of Duty League Major II carries a $365,000 pot.

The event boasts 40 exhibitor booths, a PC freeplay zone with over 200 machines, a retro arcade area, an indie games playground and dedicated cosplay facilities.
