Insurance firms Hiscox and Howden joined forces to win the Riding for the Disabled Association’s inaugural corporate golf event in Solihull, which raised £2,500 for the charity’s life-transforming work across the UK.
The victorious team was made up of Michael Constanza and Alex Bailey from Hiscox Business Insurance, Andy Gouldbourne from Howden Insurance and his guest Toby Mitchell.
The four fought off stiff competition from six other teams representing companies in the West Midlands region to take the honours at the RDA’s first Charity Golf Day at Shirley Golf Club in Solihull on Thursday September 3.
Andy, Head of Client Service at Howden Sport and Entertainment and the skipper of the winning team, said: “We were delighted to support the inaugural RDA golf day, and to come away as winners was an extra bonus. The work of the RDA touches so many people and has such a positive impact on their lives. For us to be able to contribute in this small way, to enable that work to continue, is something we are immensely proud of.”
The RDA, headquartered at Shrewley in Warwickshire, works with more than 39,000 disabled people a year through its network of nearly 430 groups across the UK.
It helps improve disabled people’s health, wellbeing and life opportunities by tapping into the power of interacting with horses to support confidence, independence and social connection.
Competing against Hiscox and Howden in the 18-hole event were golfers from Crowe, Worldpay, Global Payments Inc, Enterprise Hotels & Hospitality, Sporting Group International and Russell Heritage Golf.
Vicki Rowles, the RDA’s director of fundraising, said: “This is the first of what we hope will become an annual fixture. It gives local businesses the chance to enjoy great golf, network and support our work.
“With the support of donors, volunteers, local communities and local businesses like the ones competing, we can help more disabled children access these life-changing experiences. We’d like to extend a huge thanks to all those who have supported this event.”
Alex Bailey from Hiscox won the Closest to the Pin contest and Stiaan Scheepers from Global Payments Inc took the Longest Drive honours, sponsored respectively by Olly Murphy Racing and the Wilmcote Charitrust.
Each golfer taking part was given a personalised swing analysis by the club’s professional, Russell Heritage.
Shirley Golf Club was named Club of the Year 2025 by England Golf at the England Golf Awards.
