Legendary Blues striker Lukas Jutkiewicz – aka “Jukey” – will retire from football at the end of the 2024-25 season, the club said today.

The 36-year-old spent the past nine years with Birmingham City FC making 356 appearances.

He will now take on a new role with the club “which will be announced in due course,” BCFC said.

Jukey spent 19 years as a pro and has etched himself into Blues folklore for his contribution both on and off the pitch and his popularity with fans.

He joined BCFC on loan from Burnley in August 2016 with the move made permanent four months later.

356 appearances for BCFC

Having made his 350th appearance for the club in the home win over Wycombe Wanderers in March, Jukey proudly sits in the top 15 for all-time Birmingham City appearances.

He has 69 Blues goals to his name and was the club’s top scorer in three different seasons (2016/17, 2019/20 and 2020/21).

Jukey hangs up his boots after helping his club secure promotion into the Championship next season.

Director of Football, Craig Gardner, said: “I’d like to congratulate Jukey on a fantastic career. A powerful frontman, he gave absolutely everything on the pitch and is a credit to our profession.

“As a former teammate of his, I’m delighted he will be remaining with us as he takes the next step in his career.”

Staying with the club

Birmingham City interim CEO Jeremy Dale added: “When people think of Birmingham City, the name of Lukas Jutkiewicz is never far away.

“He is held in the highest regard by everyone at the club and he is loved by our fans like no other player in recent history.

“On behalf of everyone at Birmingham City, I want to thank Jukey for everything he has given the club in his nine years as a player here.”
