A sixth form student from Ormiston SWB Academy (OSWBA), part of Ormiston Academies Trust, has become the first student in the academy’s history to secure a highly competitive degree apprenticeship with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
Charlie Law, a Year 13 student, will begin his degree apprenticeship with LSEG following the completion of his studies this summer. Based in Nottingham, the role sits within the organisation’s Engineering pathway, offering opportunities across software engineering, cyber security, financial engineering and data science.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for both Charlie and the academy. Having long aspired to secure a degree apprenticeship, Charlie demonstrated remarkable resilience throughout a highly competitive recruitment process, navigating multiple assessment stages while continuing to balance his sixth form studies.
Despite facing setbacks along the way, Charlie remained focused on his goal, continuously reflecting on feedback, refining his approach and pursuing new opportunities. Alongside securing the role, he has independently worked through the practicalities of relocating, including arranging accommodation and managing finances.
Charlie’s success is particularly significant given his long-standing interest in pursuing a career linked to cyber security and serves as an inspiring example of aspiration, resilience and social mobility for younger students across the academy and wider community.
