So far this year more than 26,000 illegal economic migrants illegally crossed the English Channel in small boats – a record high, up 51% from 16,842 this time in 2024 and 73% on the 14,732 in 2023, according to Home Office data.
It’s a source of increasing frustration among everyday Brits who feel a growing sense of unfairness when they see news reports of illegal entrants being bussed to four-star hotels at taxpayers’ expense – £8m a day to be precise. People are protesting. Tempers are flaring. Government is spinning.
In this week’s Talk Through Walls podcast, Gary Sambrook, managing partner of Walk Through Walls, the Birmingham public affairs and PR agency, and his colleague Simon Evans, the PR consultant, thrash this topic through.
Lots of fiery opinions expressed but, admittedly, very little in the way of concrete solutions to this thorny issue, which will certainly play a big role in the next general election in 2029.
