Corbyn-led alliance warns supporters over fake site
Jeremy Corbyn urged members of his new party to ignore an “unauthorised email” today inviting them to sign up for membership on a fake website.
In a message sent this morning, the MPs said an unauthorised communication had gone out to backers of Your Party, promoting a new portal at yourparty-membership.uk.
They warned that any direct debits set up in response should be cancelled immediately, and confirmed that legal advice is being sought.
Foundation process continues
The clarification came just weeks after Corbyn and colleagues Zarah Sultana, Iqbal Mohamed, Adnan Hussain, Shockat Adam and Ayoub Khan announced they would steward the foundation of the new party. Plans include a series of regional assemblies followed by an inaugural democratic conference in the autumn.
In their latest note, the MPs reaffirmed that the official website is yourparty.uk, and that further details of the roadmap to launch will be released there. “Soon, you will be able to turn your support into membership at yourparty.uk, and shape the future of our party and our country,” the statement read.
The unauthorised email, titled “Today is the day”, had urged recipients to sign up via the bogus domain, describing the new movement as “a party that belongs to its members, not the establishment”. The incident has underlined the high-profile interest in the project, which aims to provide a new left-wing alternative in British politics.
Questions remain on whether this means they have been hacked, or has there been a data leak.
We have approached ‘Your Party’ for comment.
