Eight Employers’ Scholarships from September 2026, covering tuition fees, accommodation and living costs
University College Birmingham (UCB) is launching eight fully funded scholarships aimed at students from economically and socially deprived areas who may previously have ruled out further education due to financial hardship.
The Employers’ Scholarships, which open for applications now for September 2026 entry, will cover full tuition fees and accommodation for the duration of a student’s course, alongside a substantial bursary to support living and study costs.
UCB says the package is intended to allow recipients to engage fully in campus life without the burden of financial stress.
Professor Michael Harkin, vice-chancellor and principal of University College Birmingham, said: “These scholarships are designed to foster confidence, academic success and professional readiness, ensuring that our graduates leave UCB ready to lead, innovate and make a lasting impact on the world.”
A host of corporate sponsors
The programme forms part of the university’s Widening Access and Participation Plan and spans subject areas including business, construction, culinary arts, cyber and computer science, engineering, hospitality, sports exercise science and tourism.
The eight scholarships have been established in partnership with employers including Siemens, Red Carnation Hotels, the Celtic Collection, Hobart Commercial Kitchen Equipment and Miss Macaroon, alongside the City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club, Didactic Services and the Wood Manor Group.
Scott Duncan, managing director of Hobart UK Equipment Division, said the scholarship would welcome a candidate “who might not ordinarily get the opportunity” into the business, offering training, mentoring and real-world experience.
Applicants will first be asked to demonstrate their commitment and explain how the scholarship would support their ambitions, with shortlisted candidates then invited to a selection day.
Successful students will be expected to maintain satisfactory attendance and academic performance throughout their studies.
A wider cohort of scholarships is expected to be announced for the 2027 intake.
